The wide range of jewellery is very often the most pleasing thing about buying at auctions. Our current Important Winter Sale is no exception. We can present everything from magnificent 18th-century earrings that are also depicted on a contemporary painting that we also sell - to hyper-trendy Bulgarian jewellery from 80- and the 90s, says Cecilia.
Jewellery at Important Winter Sale
In the 1920s, three animals appear in Cartier's world of jewellery - the scarab, the mythological animal, so-called the chimaera and the panther.
It's great fun that the jewellery department includes jewellery with all three of these iconic motifs that together formed the basis of Cartier's reputation as one of the world's foremost jewellery houses of all time. One of my favourite jewellery in the auction is catalogue number 889, a large and heavy panther bracelet with strong graphic contrast between gold and black enamel. A piece of jewellery worthy of a superheroine!
Andrew Grima adorned the rich and famous in the 1960s, swinging London. Grima was a trained engineer with military experience when he started working in the finance department of a small jewellery company in London, run by his father-in-law. He quickly changed department and instead started designing jewellery and had soon renewed the English jewellery art with his unique and easily recognisable style. The two pieces of jewellery that are included in the jewellery department illustrate Grima's almost brutalist design with typical texture in beautiful contrast to the colourful organic turquoises. The ever-present Queen Elizabeth II often wears jewellery by Grima.
The magical Boucheron garnish in typical 1980s style represents the essence of classic French jewellery art, perfect craftsmanship combined with elegance. It is wonderfully refined with a mix soft pink and powerful red, glittering diamonds along with matte rock crystal. To let materials such as rock crystal and rose quartz play the main role in this luxury jewellery made by one of the world's most legendary jewellery manufacturers.
