Övrig information

In these lithographs, Feldman’s gray sign system serves to document. She pivots the color’s neutrality against exuberant marks, asserting her belief in the aesthetic gesture and its transformative power. The artist challenges our notion of reality in Loose Truth No. 3 and No. 5. In these impressions, a photo-lithographic printing technique effectively asserts the materiality of the printed paper. Both works are categorically flat yet the illusion persists, as the paper appears to be wrinkled and textured. Feldman momentarily destabilizes the viewer’s perception; with humor that equivocates ‘loose truths’ and ‘truth’; for nothing is, in fact, what it seems.

Amy Feldman (b.1981) received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and her Master of Fine Arts from Rutgers University. Recent solo exhibitions include Counter Ground, Anna Bohman Gallery, Stockholm, Sweden, 2018; Tennis Elbow, The Journal, Brooklyn, NY (2018); Nerve Reserve, James Cohan, New York, 2017; Breath Myth (2017), Blain Southern, Berlin; Psyche Shade (2016), Ratio 3, SanFrancisco, CA; Good Gloom (2016), Corbett vs Dempsey, Chicago (2016).

Feldman’s work has been featured in ArtForum, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Monopol, Die Welt, Art in America, and ManhattanMagazine, among other publications. Feldman is Visiting Faculty at Rutgers University (2015-2017), Cooper Union (2014-2016) and Virginia Commonwealth University (2008-2009).

Feldman is the recipient of a Guggenheim Foundation Grant (2018) and Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant (2013). Her work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Chicago, IL; The Sheldon Museum of Art, Lincoln, NE; The Hall Art Foundation, Schloss Derneburg Museum, Derneburg, Germany; and the Vanhaerants Art Collection, Brussels, Belgium.

Feldman lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
