The sale means a new record for the artist, who today is considered to be one of our most important modernists. Earlier record was also held by Bukowskis, for the then noticeable sale of ”Sjömän i Gröna Lunds tivoli II” (Matroser i Gröna Lund II”) from 1918, which in the fall of 2015 achieved 8 176 376 SEK.
- It is a fantastic painting at fantastic price. It is a real masterpiece which is reflected in the price says Andreas Rydén, Deputy Managing Director and Head Specialist Art, Bukowskis
Bukowskis second lot sold for over 1 million SEK by the currently so in demand artist, was GANs masterpiece ”Vagnväxling II” which during the evening achieved 4 370 054 SEK. The high quality range presented at the auction also contained another one of the so called Matisse’s students, Isaac Grünewald who’s painting ”Gosse (Ivan) med flagga” (1917), was sold for 3 920 000 SEK.
Composer, musician and artist, like a renaissance man Gösta Nystroem moved freely within the disciplines. It is extremely rare for a work by the artist to reach the auction market and this auctions unusual gem ”Flicka i svart hatt”, was sold for 535 500 SEK.
The evenings auctions offered several works that were painted during this important time in Swedish art history, who’s remarkable final prices show the enormous interest in the premier pioneers of modernism.
