For almost 100 years, Scandinavian homes have been furnished with items from Firma Svenskt Tenn. When Estrid Ericson started the business in 1924 with the help of Nils Fougstedt, it was the design of the modern pewter that was in focus. Gradually, Estrid came to connect with several prominent designers and architects such as Björn Trägårdh, Uno Åhrén and Anna Petrus, among others. In the 1930s she did the successful collaboration with the famous Austrian architect Josef Frank (1885–1967) begin. The first objects designed for Firma Svenskt Tenn premiered at an exhibition of contemporary Swedish interior art at Liljevalchs in Stockholm in 1934. It was the starting point for a lifelong collaboration between Josef Frank and Estrid Ericson.
Josef Frank is today considered one of Sweden's most important designers of all time. His furniture and interior items have over time become icons that never seem to go out of time. For Josef Frank, 'comfort and richness of colour' were essential; a home was constantly evolving according to him.
