In connection with Firma Svenskt Tenn's 100th anniversary, we present here the themed auction "100 Years of Svenskt Tenn – The Modern Pewter" where pewter is highlighted with a curated collection of objects that extends from the opening year in 1924 and onwards. Estrid Ericson opened Firma Svenskt Tenn in 1924 in collaboration with the artist Nils Fougstedt. It became a combined workshop and boutique where the soft pewter was shaped into decorative ornaments and useful everyday objects. Already on Svenskt Tenn's opening day, Svenska Dagbladet writes in a full-page article that pewter is about to regain a place of honor in homes. The newly opened store, with its location in a now-demolished block diagonally behind Nordiska Kompaniet in Stockholm, immediately became of central importance in the aesthetically interested Stockholm crowd. The pewter objects presented were relatively conventional at first sight but had evolved with new shapes and sculpted figures.
Welcome to explore and bid on the items in this auction, and face autumn in the light of pewter's beautiful, powder-gray glow.
