The leading auction for contemporary art and design in the Nordics is back with works by international artists including Alex Katz, James Rosenquist, David Hockney and Yves Klein, and prints by Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. Within the Swedish section, we find acclaimed artists such as Mamma Andersson, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, and Andreas Eriksson, as well as sought-after works by Lena Cronqvist, Rolf Hanson and Ola Billgren. Within design, highlights this season include an interesting selection of contemporary designers such as Alexis Verstraeten & Pauline Montironi, Lindsey Adelman, as well as a collection of furniture by Mats Theselius and Jonas Bohlin for Källemo - among them, Bohlin's brutalist design classic ’Iron Concrete’.
The art department offers an unusually spectacular lineup of international art by some of the biggest contemporary artists. Highlights include the painting ’Cane Garden Bay 2’ by Alex Katz, depicting the artist's wife Ada, painted in 1974. The auction's most monumental work is ’Welcome to the Water Planet III’ by American pop artist James Rosenquist, which measures five by two meters with a motif that balances realism and kaleidoscopic abstraction. In smaller formats, we find the early oil painting ’Flowers for a Wedding’ by the British artist David Hockney, as well as "Untitled Blue Monochrome (IKB 327)" by Yves Klein in his iconic Klein Blue pigment. Other sought-after international artists include Sheila Hicks, Donald Baechler, and Jim Dine.
Mamma Andersson is represented with several works in her distinct style. The painting 'All They Had To Do Was Dream' from 2001 explores the theme of childhood and relationships, and what it means to belong to a group and to stand outside of it. The Swedish section also includes works by artists such as Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Karin Broos, Rolf Hanson, Torsten Andersson, Ola Billgren, Lena Cronqvist, and Andreas Eriksson.
Within the photography section, we find international stars such as Terry O'Neill, Diane Arbus, Nick Brandt, David Yarrow, Steve McCurry as well as well-established Swedish names including Christer Strömholm, Nathalia Edenmont, and Denise Grünstein. A carefully curated print section boosts international works by Keith Haring's work ’Totem’, a woodcut from 1989, Andy Warhol's ’Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn)’ and ’Venus’ as well as works by Christo & Jeanne Claude, Damien Hirst, and others.
The Design Department is pleased to present the iconic ’Iron Concrete’ chair designed by Jonas Bohlin in 1987. The chair was produced in a very limited edition and this rare example has a provenance from Bolin’s own private collection. Objects by Mats Theselius include sought-after furniture including the armchairs ’El Rey’ and ’Birdland’, a custom variant of the armchair ’Iron/Mocha´, a folding screen and his several aluminum armchairs.
The design department also offers an exciting selection of contemporary designs such as the armchair ’Miss Flamingo’ by Alexis Verstraeten & Pauline Montironi, two tables by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, ’Odyssey’ and ’Chang Boucher’, Lindsey Adelman's popular ’Agnes Chandelier 20’ and an exclusive sofa, "Serpentine", by Vladimir Kagan.
