Contemporary Art & Design is Scandinavia’s leading auction for contemporary art and design. This season’s catalogue includes everything from international contemporary art, prints and photography to coveted design objects and collections. Discover great works by international and Swedish artists such as Jim Nutt, Andy Warhol, Banksy, Robert Frank, Karin Mamma Andersson, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Linn Fernström, Barbro Östlihn and Ola Billgren. The extensive design department includes collector’s items from designers such as Jonas Bohlin, Mats Theselius and Carlo Scarpa, as well as a dynamic collection of Memphis objects.
Karin Mamma Andersson is an artist who makes distinct observations. Her gaze finds details that the rest of us could never imagine being the subject of a painting. In the artwork presented in the auction, several of the artist’s recurring themes, such as the Northern Swedish nature, the dream-like composition and childhood, can be found. In’ Skoldans’, the solid surface of the tabletop appears to have dissolved and, like a giant crystal ball, creates a portal into the children’s future. Additional highlights are two works by Barbro Östlihn, one of our most influential artists during the late 20th century, recently recognized with a large solo exhibition at Gothenburg’s Art Museum.
The photography department includes conceptual and classic documentary photography and several iconic portraits. With an impressive estimate of 400,000 – 500,000, Bukowskis can present a significant photograph of Robert Frank, which is very rare to find on the Swedish market. During the 1940s and 50s, Frank was with Diane Arbus, Lisette Model and Weegee, amongst others, part of a group often referred to as ’The New York School of Photography’. In 1994, The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. held the largest exhibition of Frank’s work to this date. In 1996 he was awarded the Hasselblad Award.
Bukowskis can also present an extensive collection of Andy Warhol’s graphic motifs. The catalogue also includes prints by the ever-present Banksy, as well as David Hockney, Julian Schnabel and Roy Lichtenstein.
The interest in contemporary classics from iconic designers such as Jonas Bohlin, Mats Theselius and Poul Kjaerholm is still great. We’re pleased to present an extensive collection from all of them. Jonas Bohlin’s ”Concrete” stands for the department’s highest estimate, an icon in Swedish postmodernist furniture art, produced in only a few copies. Also, see coveted designs from international names such as Carlo Scarpa, Mario Bellini, Ettore Sottsass and Michel Ducaroy, and a charming collection of Memphis objects.
