The leading auction for modern art and design in the Nordics is back with an outstanding lineup of groundbreaking art and internationally sought-after design. Top lots from the art department include modernist Otto G Carlsund's painting ’Tones Vibration’, an elegant composition from 1929 that feels as modern today as it did when it was executed nearly a century ago. Among the top works is also Nils von Dardel's theatrical painting ’The Staircase’, which has been included in several prominent exhibitions both in Sweden and internationally, as well as several significant works by Halmstadgruppen, such as ’Moonlight’ by Erik Olson and ’Farewell to Maimuna (sailor's song)’ and ’Swedish sailor’ by Gösta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN). Other highlights from the Swedish section include ’Snurran’ and ’Drakar III’ by Lennart Rohde as well as several works by pioneering and important artists such as Evert Lundquist, Lotte Laserstein, Ragnar Sandberg, and Gösta Nystroem. Among the international modern masterpieces are Victor Vasarely, Henry Moore, and Asger Jorn, and sought-after graphics by Andy Warhol, Joan Miró and Edvard Munch.
As part of the live auction, this season Bukowskis presents a special jubilee section to celebrate Svenskt Tenn's centennial. The section offers rarities from Svenskt Tenn's early production designed by Estrid Ericson, Josef Frank, Björn Trägårdh, Tyra Lundgren, and others. Highlights within the department include a specially commissioned cabinet from the 1940s with hand-coloured engravings of fauna and flora from Friedrich Justin Bertuch's 'Bilderbuch für Kinder', as well as several early and rare pewter objects, including a scarce bowl with engraved decoration by Tyra Lundgren for Svenskt Tenn 1932.
The design department also presents objects from some of the 20th century's foremost Scandinavian and international designers such as Dagobert Peche, Hans J Wegner, Otto Schulz, Carl-Axel Acking, Axel Einar Hjorth, and Harald Notini. In the section for carpets and textiles, we see a great focus on Swedish female textile artists with highlights such as ’The Meadows’ by Märta Måås-Fjetterström and ’Strålblomman, grön’ and "Röda rabatten" by Barbro Nilsson. The latter is the first ’Röda rabatten’ woven and was delivered to the customer in December 1944.
The ceramics department includes well-known names such as Stig Lindberg, Bernt Friberg, Wilhelm Kåge, Hans Hedberg, and others, and in the glass department we see objects by Ingeborg Lundin, Eva Englund and Oiva Toikka. The silver section contains early and sought-after silver objects by Georg Jensen, including a table lamp and a tea box, as well as two pairs of candlesticks by Sigurd Persson. Within jewellery, we find modern designers such as Rey Urban, Wiwen Nilsson, Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe, Siv Lagerström, and Inga-Britt ’Ibe’ Dahlquist. Highlights from the department present a beautiful bridal crown and a stunning bronze necklace.
