A significant painting by the artist John Bauer achieved a new world record on Thursday afternoon at Bukowskis' live auction, Important Winter Sale. The painting, titled "Sagoflickan," sold for the spectacular final price of 8.75 million SEK.

On Thursday, Swedish and international art was auctioned at Bukowskis' major live auction, Important Winter Sale, where one of the most notable works was the monumental painting "Sagoflickan" by John Bauer from 1912. The painting was offered with a record-high estimate of 7–8 million SEK and sold for a final price of 8.75 million SEK (including fees and commissions), setting a new world record for a work by John Bauer.

About ”Sagoflickan”

In 1912, John Bauer was at the peak of his career, with his art being exhibited both in his homeland and soon abroad. During this period, Bauer painted one of his most significant works, ”Sagoflickan,” an oil painting on canvas in a monumental format for Bauer, measuring 136 x 140 cm. The inspiration for the girl, who sits on a moss-covered stone brushing her long hair, came from Bauer's wife, Ester, as well as from the figures of the Virgin Mary in the Italian Renaissance. ”Sagoflickan” went on to be exhibited at several major exhibitions, both in Sweden and internationally, such as at the Artist House, Stockholm, in 1913, The Panama-Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco, in 1915, the touring exhibition "The Swedish Exhibition" in 1916, and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm, in 1934, cat. no. 192.
