"White Glove" and Sensational Final Prices for Torun at Modern Art & Design
During this autumn's Modern Art & Design live auction, an impressive collection of modern jewellery by iconic female designers was presented. The jewellery section achieved a “White Glove” status, with record-high final prices for pieces by Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe.
Torun is a pioneering female modernist who has left a significant mark on Swedish art and design with her unique and innovative artistic expression. Her jewellery reflects a strong drive and uncompromising vision, and her timeless design language is as relevant today as it was when first created.
Among the highlights of the auction were two silver necklaces by Torun from 1951 and 1952, with provenance from Gunilla Palmstierna-Weiss. Torun revolutionised jewellery design with her minimalist aesthetic, while Palmstierna-Weiss, through her artistry, provides a historical context to Torun’s early work, which was reflected in the bidding.
The two necklaces sold for several times their estimates, reaching record final prices of 464 000 SEK and 200 000 SEK respectively, and concluded the section as a “White Glove,” meaning all items were sold. Other prominent modern designers represented in the section included Wiwen Nilsson and Inga-Britt “Ibe” Dahlquist.
