Among the highlights of the Asian sale is also a collection of the Swedish Diplomat Dag Malm, lot no 1008-1029, that holds several important huanghuali furniture with graceful and elegant silhouettes, well made in the treasured huanghuali wood that is so desired for its rich yellow amber tones and abstract figural patterns. Additionally, the collection of Ambassador Klas E Böök, sold by the family, offers a great selection of blue and white mark and period porcelain as well as huanghuali and zitan works of art. Lot no 960-1007.
Rare zitan recessed-leg long table
Impressive in size and quality is this massive zitan recessed-leg long table 'Jiaotousun Qiotouan' from the Qing dynasty, 19th century. The table is a part of the collection Paul R. Wedendal (1924-2010) and has been in the family since the 1970s. With the social upheaval in China during the 20th century, tables of this great size and quality are rare.
A private Finnish Collection
The Asian sale also includes a fantastic collection of porcelain and lacquerware from a private Finnish collection, that was formed between 1980 and 2020. The collector has had an interest in China and Chinese Works of Art since childhood, growing up in Beijing. He returned to China in his adult years for work and ended up living in China for over 40 years. His love for China and Chinese works of art is mirrored in the selection.
Being an academic collector, he never grew tired of learning more about the subject by studying literature, attending lectures, visiting museums, auction houses, and befriending curators from Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Paris, and Stockholm. See lots 1082-1144 to discover the collection.
