Highlights from the leading Nordic auction for contemporary art and design
After a successful autumn, Bukowskis opens the spring Fine Art auction season with the live auction Contemporary Art & Design.
The first day of the auction was all about design with an exciting mix of contemporary designers. Highlights included objects by Gaetano Pesce, Vladimir Kagan, Philip & Kelvin LaVerne as well as Swedish postmodernists such as Mats Theselius and Jonas Bohlin.
Swedish postmodernists
The chair "Iron Concrete" designed by Jonas Bohlin in 1987 was one highlight from the department. The chair which was produced in a limited edition with a provenance from the designers private collection, sold for a final price of 250 000 SEK which is a new auction record for the model. Another highlight from Bohlin was the cabinet "Slottsbacken" which, after lively bidding, sold over double the asking price, at a final price of SEK 263 000.
A number of objects by Mats Theselius sold at high final prices, among them the armchairs "El Rey" and "Birdland", a special order of the armchair "Järn/Mocca", a folding screen in green copper and several of his iconic aluminum armchairs.
International Design Icons
The auction offered an exciting mix of items from international designer names, highlights included the 'Chang' and 'Odyssey' tables by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, the exclusive 'Serpentine' sofa by Vladimir Kagan and the 'La Mamma' armchair by iconic designer Gaetano Pesce.
Scandinavian Design
Objects by Scandinavian designers included the rare 'Focus' easy-chair, designed by Bengt Ruda for Ikea in the 50s, a table by Erling Viksjø with a decorative stone top and several lamps by Hans-Agne Jakobsson.
Contemporary studio Design
The Design department also offered a selection of unique and sought-after objects from an exciting line-up of studio designers, among them Hanna Hansdotter, Jenny Nordberg, Nick Ross and David Taylor. Objects that stood out included an aluminum chair by David Taylor and a glass sculpture by Hanna Hansdotter, which sold for a final price of SEK 64 000, which is a new auction record.
Scandinavia’s only recurring Fine Art auction for contemporary art and design continues to cement its leading position with increasing international interest.
