Art Department for Important Spring Sale – Nine Lots Exceeding One Million SEK
Nine Lots Exceeding One Million SEK and Success for the Lotte Laserstein Collection
The second day of Bukowskis' Important Spring Sale started strongly as a collection of 27 highly sought-after works by Lotte Laserstein went under the hammer. The collection ended as a White Glove Sale, meaning all works were sold. Highlights included the artworks "Portrait of Else Becker," "In the Studio (Ernst and Traute Rose)," "Portrait of Dr. Winter," and "Traute," along with several sketches. The collection sold four times the low estimate and achieved a total final price of 4,7 million SEK.
– The interest in the significant collection of works by Lotte Laserstein was very high, with Swedish and international bidders. The majority of the lots reached sensational levels after intense bidding, says Andreas Rydén, Head Specialist, Art.
The auction’s first lot exceeding one million SEK was a winter landscape by Gustaf Fjaestad, followed by Carl Larsson’s ”Vårflod/Översvämning and “Gumman i Maj månad”. Masterpieces by Anders Zorn also offered lots exceeding one million SEK with the works “Gods-Kari” and “Kuvåsängen”.
– Seeing the immense interest in two of our most beloved Swedish artists, Anders Zorn and Carl Larsson was very exciting. Zorn's 'Gods-Kari' achieved an incredible final price of 4.4 million SEK, says Lena Rydén, Head of Art, Specialist Modern and 19th century Art.
The highest final price of the auction was two works by the Armenian-Russian artist Ivan Constantinovich Aivazovsky, ”View of Yalta at Dawn” and ”Moonlight over Oreanda in Crimea with Aiu-Dagh on the Horizon”, with imperial provenance from the collections of Tsar Alexander III. The two paintings sold for a combined final price of 10 million SEK.
– The masterpieces by Aivazovsky stand out as two of the absolute highlights of the season with their extraordinary provenance from the collection of Tsar Alexander III, says Andreas Rydén, Head Specialist, Art.
