The Nordic region's leading auction house had a grand start to the auction season

Top sales in all departments and a new world record for Helmer Osslund

Bukowski can summarize this spring's first hammer auction, Important Spring Sale, with a very strong result for all departments and as many as 11 lots exceeding 1 million SEK. A result that is partly due to Bukowskis high-quality offer and partly to a modern digital solution that meets our customers’ needs wherever they are in the world.

Against the background of these special circumstances in the world and in Sweden, we are very grateful for the trust our customers have given us and very happy that we were able to manage it and deliver a fantastic result for the auction as a whole. It shows that we have a fine balance between art and business, where we succeed to deliver successful sales regardless of sales channel, says Louise Arén, CEO.

Bukowskis was happy to present the classic hammer sale, Important Spring Sale, with a high-quality selection of classical art, works of art, Asian works of art and jewellery. This seasons catalogue also included a significant new special department featuring modern and contemporary prints with international names such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall.

The auction shows that top-quality items, collectors' items with a unique history and an exciting provenance stand the test of time as well as pandemics. We are so pleased that these historic objects are passing through Bukowskis and finding new owners in collectors around the world,” says Björn Extergren, Head of Consignment & Sales Department, Fineart.

Bukowskis can also proudly present a new record for the artist Helmer Osslund after the magnificent landscape painting "Mullfjället" was sold for an incredible 8 942 500 SEK. Carl Larsson's "Theatre speculations", John Bauer's fabulous "The boy who was never afraid" and Georg Pauli's "Roman Bath" / "Odalisk" were further highlights during the auction.

In these very special times, it is impressive to see how strong the art market is. We now look forward with confidence to our Modern and Contemporary auctions in two weeks. It's also fantastic with 11 lots exceeding 1 million SEK and the fact that these wonderful pieces of art now have found new owners, Andreas Rydén head specialist art, deputy managing director.

Bukowski's summarizes two days of intensive auctions with 762 items sold for a total final price of SEK 80.2 million with 33.5% of winning bids from online, compared with 22.2% in 2019. Bids with a paddle in the sales room declined slightly in the light of recommendations from the Public Health Agency on social distancing.
