General Oscar Nygren (1872-1960)
Oscar Nygren had a long career in the military spanning four decades. He began as a second lieutenant at the Hälsinge Regiment in 1892 and ended his career as a lieutenant general and deputy head of the Military Bureau of the Ministry of Defence. He was the chief of the General Staff from 1933 to 1937. He retired in 1937 but was called back during the Second World War as the commander of the newly formed 2nd Army Corps, holding senior positions in Upper Norrland and Western Sweden. He also served as a military member of the Supreme Court from 1934 to 1954, and as a military expert in the League of Nations committee. In 1919, he became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences.
