In the summer of 2020, Bukowskis had a sales exhibition featuring approximately 100 works by Madeleine Pyk, displayed in our premises in Berzelii Park. On the final day of the exhibition, the playwright and writer Stina Oscarson noticed one of the paintings advertised on the cultural billboards along Strandvägen. This painting with tigers left such a profound impression on Stina that she turned around and stepped inside Bukowskis for the first time. She was completely captivated by the artwork hanging at the far end. Unfortunately, it had already been sold.
When Stina wrote to Madeleine Pyk about this tiger painting, she received a response stating that she no longer painted tigers. Now, she painted owls.
On the same day that Russia invaded Ukraine, Stina sent a note to Madeleine with a question. Why paint owls when the world is on fire? This marked the beginning of an intense correspondence between the two that would last for nearly a year before Madeleine finally answered the question.
In the new book with the same title, we are invited to follow the journey. A conversation seamlessly shifting between life, art, and politics. A literary dialogue where two life stories with many unexpected points of intersection unfold step by step.
Eventually, Stina Oscarson becomes the owner of a new tiger painting, which she now chooses to sell and donate the proceeds to charitable purposes.
