In 1961-62 the young Swedish photographer Leif-Erik Nygårds came to USA to work as Bert Stern’s assistant.
In June 1962 They were in Los Angeles to photograph Marilyn Monroe for Vogue Magazine. The assignment was a four day long photo shoot at Bel Air Hotel. Since Monroe currently was filming the movie "Something's got to give" where she stared as a Swedish house maid, she wished to get some coaching from Nygårds regarding the pronunciation. They both got along well and since Stern and Monroe had a fight she gave Nygårds permission to take a photograph of her in the nude. She got to decide the setting herself. According to Gary Cole, editor at Playboy, this is probably the last picture of Monroe taken by a professional photographer. She died on August 4th 1962.
