Karl Norin, "Elnagh Duke"
Signerad och daterad 2013 verso. Fake fur, epoxy, wood, glue 153 x 93 cm.
Karl Norin, born in 1982 in Fjällbacka, lives and works in Stockholm and holds an MFA from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Karl vacuum-presses synthetic fur against glass in a mould with resin, resulting in an object and an image, a piece of art and a sculpture. For Norin, it is evident that he is working with paintings, as they have a distinct front and back and are meant to be hung on a wall. However, not a single brush or tube of paint has been near the work; instead, Norin has developed a unique method based on textile materials, focusing on experimentation and relinquishing control.
His solo exhibitions include: "Karl Norin" at Market Art Fair, Stockholm (2022); "Justitia" at Belenius, Stockholm (2018); and "Soosh Soosh..." at Bill Brady, Miami, USA (2015). His group exhibitions include "Downtown Issue" at ISSUES, Stockholm (2021), "ISSUES #4" at ISSUES, Stockholm (2017), "Malmö Sessions" with Carl Kostyál, Malmö (2019); "Friends in Need" (2016) and "Meet Your Maker" (2014) at Carl Kostyál, Stockholm, as well as "Swedish Art: Now!" at Sven-Harrys Art Museum, Stockholm (2016). His art is represented in several public and private collections, including the SEB art collection.
