Evelina Kroon, a "Bloody Queen" chess set, Sweden 2023.

Negligible wear.
The organization WaterAid's "Bloody Queen" campaign draws attention to how a lack of clean water and toilets leads to the exclusion of girls and women from school, work and society at large when they are menstruating. A chess game designed by artist Evelina Kroon was created to draw attention to the taboos, stigma and injustices still attached to menstruation that affect the future of girls and women and societies at large. The chess game was exhibited at Space in Stockholm in the spring of 2023 and was also included on a trip to WaterAid in Nepal that same year.
Two chess sets are now being auctioned to benefit WaterAid's work to ensure that all people have access to clean water, toilets and hygiene facilities.
