Anja Notini - Ceramics F509

Anja Notini (1940-2018) was a woman of many talents. In addition to being an editor and collaborator for the magazine ’Femina’ for many years, she was also a skilled photographer and published several photo books, the first of which was published in 1980 ‘Dräktfolket: möte med tradition’ and depicted people with a commitment to the Swedish folk costumes.

Five years later, after many study trips with visits to various potters, she
published the book ‘Krukmakare: möte med tradition’ (‘Potters: encounter with tradition’). The work on this book led Anja Notini to start working with clay herself. She created a studio next to her home in Saltsjö-Boo, at ‘Villa Solvik’ and took the clay from her own garden.

She came to work mainly in earthenware - blackware or smoke fired. She made powerful objects in the shape of vases, dishes and spherical pots. Meanwhile, she continued to produce art books on various themes. Later in life, Anja Notini preferred to practice her artistry by painting on canvas. Her career was crowned with the exhibition ‘Rum med gravitation’
(‘Room with gravity’) at Prins Eugen's Waldemarsudde in Stockholm in 2017. This auction in-cludes ceramics by Anja Notini from her own collection.
