Rannvá Kunoy, born in 1977 in the Faroe Islands, now lives and works in London. She graduated in painting from the Royal College of Art in 1999. Her art experiments with colour, spatiality, and immateriality, with her paintings deliberately occupying an uneasy space between opposing extremes, something recognisable but intangible, physical without being material. The surface is pushed towards a hybrid of sorts, the marks are as thin and lacking in texture as possible, in it an attitude of almost anti-composition and deliberate ambiguity.
Her recent solo exhibitions have been held at Nathalie Karg Gallery in New York (2021, 2017); Lundgren Gallery in Mallorca (2020, 2018, 2016); and Centre PasquArt in Biel (2015). She has also participated in group exhibitions at the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands (2022); Lundgren Gallery in Mallorca (2022); and in the exhibition “I Care Because You Do”, curated by Matt Black, at The Mass in Tokyo (2021).
