A themed auction featuring 41 landscape paintings by Vera Frisén (1910–1990). Frisén could have had a brilliant career right from the start, but she chose not to. When she was finally persuaded to hold a solo exhibition at Galleri Färg och Form in Stockholm in 1941, it was an immediate success, and she was described as Sweden’s Helene Schjerfbeck. Vera Frisén would have most likely secured her place in art history much earlier if she had not chosen to completely withdraw from the public art scene. After the exhibition at Färg och Form, she rarely showed her works, though she continued to paint throughout her life.
Frisén was a plein air painter and a unique interpreter of the northern Swedish landscapes. Her works, characterized by unique color combinations and a melancholic undertone, invite the viewer on a journey through timeless and magnificent landscapes.
When Vera Frisén’s work was exhibited at the Thiel Gallery in Stockholm in 2011, Anna Brodow Inzaina wrote the following in Svenska Dagbladet: “Vera Frisén feels more contemporary than much of what one otherwise sees in galleries today.”
