Anna Billing, Summer's landscape with children by the water
Indistinctly signed lower left corner. Watercolor 51 x 42 cm.
Not examined out of frame. Minor time staining.
Anna Billing was born into a cultural family, her father was the landscape artist Tore Billing and her mother the opera singer Elma Ström. Her artistic education was partially covered by her father but she also studied for Johan Christoffer Boklund, August Malmström and Kerstin Cardon. Billing also made a trip to Paris and studied for the flower painter Georges Jeannin. In Paris, Billing exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1884 and later in Sweden at the Stockholm Exhibition in 1897. The auctions watercolor is typical for the artist who liked to depict flowers and landscapes in lush green. A summer day with two little girls picking flowers by the water is depicted.
