La Chute
La Chute signifies a revolt against the interpretation of the fall in the Old Testament. In the Greek Apollonian ideal, the notion of sin did not exist. In Gudmar's interpretation, Eve revolts against the idea of holding back, of restraint, an attitude that has been forced upon her, and she takes the innocent Adam with her.
A year later after creating La Chute Gudmar used the biblical allegory to highlight the woman as a stand-alone sculpture as ”Rebelled Eve”.
A 220 cm tall version of La Chute is installed at The Garden of Love at Château de Cheverny. The Garden of Love features in total six monumental bronze sculptures around the lush and scenic pond in the castle’s park honoring life, love and family. It’s open to the public all year round.
