During the 1930s, people began to perceive strong subjective colors as something specific to some artists from the west coast. The designation became Gothenburg colorism and was applied to a group of painters who at the time in the 1920s studied for Tor Bjurström, which gave them a common starting point.
Gothenburg colorism is today synonymous with a handful of colorful, expressive art, including Inge Schiöler, Ivan Ivarson, Ragnar Sandberg and Erling Ärlingsson.
In this theme auction, feel free to explore a number of artists' ways of seeing the world through color.
