Many generations have grown up in the light of the popular Globo Ring, Ufo and Discus models. The luminaires have illuminated homes, schools and other spaces during the latter part of the 20th century and are in many ways synonymous with the modern Scandinavian spirit. The creators, the brothers Uno and Östen Kristiansson, started the company Luxus back in 1950 when they created different types of ceiling, wall and floor lamps in opal glass combined with teak and oak that quickly became iconic. Luxus adapted to the spirit of the times and soon also introduced durable fixtures and lamps in acrylic plastic that were quickly appreciated not only by the domestic market but also in Europe. From the end of 1960 and twenty years onwards, Luxus focused on the public sector and their luminaires appeared in various businesses such as schools, meeting rooms and hotels.
Uno and Östen Kristiansson grew up in Bjärnum where there were many furniture factories. They helped in their father's carpentry shop and early on got a feel for both production, craftsmanship and form. The brothers were educated in different places but came together after the war when they started the small company that quickly grew into the well-known brand we know today. In our auction, you will find several of the classic Luxus fixtures but also other furnishings that feel as modern and natural to live with now as then.
