John Duncan (b. 1953, Wichita, Kansas) lives and works in Bologna, Italy. Having studied at CalArts, Duncan's practice has explored the cutting edge of performance, video, experimental music, installation, pirate radio and television. Duncan played a pivotal role in the development of performance art in Los Angeles, of experimental music as a member of the Los Angeles Free Music Society, and of Japanese noise and pirate radio in Tokyo. Having exhibited and performed internationally, Duncan has recently exhibited in John Duncan, Nicodim Gallery, Los Angeles (2018, solo); JOHN DUNCAN: HEAVY, USELESS, NO SENSE OF HUMOR, Narkissos Gallery, Bologna, Italy (2017, solo); Beneath the Valley of the Lowest Form of Music: LAFMS at The Box, The Box, Los Angeles (2012); and California Video, The Getty, Los Angeles (2008).
