Henry B. Goodwin was born in Germany in 1878. He emigrated to Sweden in 1904 to teach at Uppsala University. In 1916 he abandoned his linguistic work to become a full-time portrait photographer with a studio of his own. Goodwin was one of the groundbreaking photographers that considered photography an independent art form. He is one of Sweden’s most distinguished photographers ever. It was very popular to get your picture taken by Goodwin among Stockholm’s upper class. Many of his portraits of well known artists, writers and actors of that time was published. This theme auction includes his respectful portraits of Anders Zorn and Selma Lagerlöf as well as several dramatic pictures of the actor Anders de Wahl. The auction also offers lovely pictures of his wife Ida Goodwin sunbathing at the rocks of the island of Utö where they owned a cottage. There is also photographs of their beloved dogs named Troll and Tott published in the book ”Troll och Tott och deras vänner” that Ida and Henry B. Goodwin made together in 1924.
