Decorative Arts from the 1920-40s

Art Déco is the predominant decorative art style of the 1920s and 1930s, characterized by precise and boldly delineated geometric shapes and strong colours and used most notably in household objects and in architecture. The term Art Deco is used to describe a design style that originates around World War I, and runs through to World War II (c. 1915-1945). Art Déco design represented modernism turned into fashion. Its products included both individually crafted luxury items and mass-produced wares, but, in either case, the intention was to create a sleek and anti-traditional elegance that symbolized wealth and sophistication.
