Ibid Gallery writes on their homepage about Chisholm:
"Inspired by eighteenth century British artists such as Thomas Gainsborough and Joshua Reynolds, Ross Chisholm’s paintings consist of historical images and portraits that explore the aura of art. Through abstraction and a restructuring of the subject, Chisholm’s figures depart from their historical context and their formal subject-matter into a critical materiality evocative of an otherworldly nostalgia. His practice seeks to examine and exploit the value of art, in particular, commissions, and the status they bring - what determines which artists’ works reach museums and collections and, what trickles down into the consumer market through reproductions such as postcards and prints.
Ross Chisholm was born in the UK in 1977 and lives and works in London. He has participated in group shows including Human Condition, presented by John Wolf, Los Angeles, CA, US; Another Ghost, Gallery 100, Taipei, TW; Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle, Munich, DE; Being There, Galerie Akinci, Amsterdam, NL. Recent solo shows include Ross Chisholm, Si Shang Art Museum, Beijing, CN; Testament, Green Art Gallery, Dubai, UAE; The Garden, Marc Jancou, Geneva, CH; and Black Light Projector, Grieder Contemporary, Kuesnacht, CH."
