Cecilia af Klercker, née Lewenhaupt (1872-1958), as the granddaughter of Carl Jedvard Bonde of Ericsberg, was early on part of the circle around the royal court, where she formed friendships. From 1903 to 1910, she served as a Lady-in-Waiting to Crown Princess (later Queen) Victoria. She also became close to Princess Maria (Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna). She vividly described all of this in her memoir: Förgången Glans, En drottnings statsfru berättar (1944).
Over the years, Cecilia af Klercker amassed a rich collection of signed photographs from various European royals, which is now being offered at auction. The collection well illustrates the tradition of presenting signed photographs as official honours, as well as private tokens of friendship. Several of the photographs in the auction are featured as illustrations in the memoir.
Consignment is now open for our upcoming live auction, Important Spring Sale, on 11–13 June.
