The word photography comes from the Greek phos, meaning light, and graphō, which translates as writing or drawing. Thus, if you photograph, light is the basis of your creation, you write with light. The common denominator in this curated auction is the aesthetic relationship between light and dark in photography. The selection provides different insights into how a photographer can use shadows and the absence of light in their images. The result is a varied expression in which the subject appears with the help of both clear shadows and sharp lines as well as soft diffuse transitions. Among the talented artists and photographers included in the Shadows & Silhouettes theme are Dawid, Denise Grünstein, Robert Zuckerman and others.
Consignments are ongoing for our upcoming live auction Contemporary Art & Design, 15–16 April.
