Yrjö Kukkapuro

A unique opportunity to acquire Finnish design classics from the Gothenburg restaurant Pekkas. In an industrial area on the outskirts of Gothenburg, one has been able to enjoy lunch in style at Restaurant Pekkas for half a century. When your lunch tray is filled, the blue fitted carpet leads you to your seat. Here, you sit softly, stylishly, and comfortably in the red chairs from the "Saturnus" series, designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro in 1965.

According to rumours, Pekka, who started the restaurant, was a very promising chef in Gothenburg's restaurant scene around the mid-20th century. In the 1960s, he was commissioned by a pharmaceutical company to start a lunch restaurant. He agreed, on the condition that he received an unlimited budget for the interior design.

Space was in vogue, and naturally, the furniture would follow this trend. With his Finnish background, the choice was probably easy. Yrjö Kukkapuro's space-influenced series filled the premises and gave the restaurant a modern impression.

In this themed auction, you now have a unique opportunity to acquire the Finnish design classics from Restaurant Pekkas in larger quantities. The padded chairs with swivel function allow you to sit relaxed and comfortably, while the materials in fibreglass, plastic, and metal still feel modern and exude a sense of the future.
