The term El Primero ("the first") refers to Zenith's groundbreaking chronograph movement, introduced in 1969. It was one of the very first automatic chronograph calibres ever developed, and remains the only one from that era still in continuous production.
This particular reference, 03.2040.4061/69.M2040, pays homage to the original 1969 A386 but adds a contemporary twist. The most distinctive feature is the open worked dial aperture at 10 o’clock, revealing the fast-beating escapement in action, a hallmark of the Chronomaster Open series. The tri-colour subdials in grey and blue echo the vintage aesthetic, while the modern 42mm stainless steel case and integrated bracelet bring it firmly into the 21st century.
