Olle Granath reviewed Zoltan von Boer's exhibition in the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter in April 1969. He wrote, among other things, that the paintings are "executed with an old-masterly skill that reveals the art conservator in the artist." Zoltan von Boer was born in Transylvania and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest before coming to Sweden. He cultivated his own artistic practice alongside his professional role as a conservator. It is unmistakably evident in his paintings his deep interest and understanding of older painting techniques. Portraiture stands out in the artist's oeuvre. In his remarkable portraits he creates both intimacy and distance, sometimes allowing, as in this case, a historical figure to pose for him. Zoltan von Boer is represented, among others, at the Moderna Museet, Gothenburg Museum of Art, and Bildmuseet in Umeå.
