Muut tiedot

Ingegerd Torhamn was drawn to the straight lines and geometric forms of functionalism. Her paintings often feature seemingly simple and non-figurative motifs. She was one of the first and foremost Swedish concrete artists, following in the footsteps of GAN and Otto G. Carlsund and contemporaneous with Erik Olson.
She participated in the legendary Stockholmsutställningen,1930, which marked her significant breakthrough. In recent years, her concrete paintings, particularly from the early years, have garnered increasing interest. Like Olle Baertling and L G Nordström, Ingegerd Torhamn found a unique concrete style that is instantly recognizable. However, she was not only a prominent Swedish visual artist but also a sculptor and textile artist, having studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and abroad at times.
Ingegerd Torhamn created around a dozen rugs, and architect Gunnar Asplund was early impressed by her bold and austere design language. During her studies, she met Astri Bergman-Taube, who became her best friend. They both studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts' sculpture school under Carl Milles. Together with Agnes Cleve, Ingegerd Torhamn exhibited at the Artist's House in Stockholm in 1932. Over several decades, she had numerous well-received solo exhibitions.
Ingegerd Torhamn's works can be found in collections including the Nationalmuseum and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Stockholms stadsmuseum, Statens Porträttsamling och Röhsska Museet in Gothenburg.
