"Nichiren and the Levitating Rock at Mount Komuro on the 28th Day of the Fifth Month of 1274" (Bun'ei jûichi gogatsu nijûhachinichi Komuroyama hôrinseki), from the series Sketches of the Life of Nichiren (Kôso goichidai ryakuzu)「高祖御一代略図 文永十一五月廿八日小室山法輪石」

Alternative titles: "Life of Nichiren: Rock Suspended by the Power of Prayer"/"Gazing at the Rock on Komuro mountain, on the Twenty-eighth of the Fourth month, 1274".

Censor's seal: (kiwame) in the right margin but cropped.

Sheet size 23.5 x 35.5 cm.

Cropped. Fold in the middle. Wear. Minor damage. Glued to cardboard.

Alkuperä - Provenienssi

From the Collection of Axel Sjöberg (1866-1950). Thence by descent. Axel Sjöberg is a well-known Swedish painter, who is famous for his representations of the archipelago around Stockholm. He grew up at Skeppsholmen in Stockholm. In 1880 he was employed by Generalstabens litografiska anstalt where he also came to work with prints and photography. He illustrated several books. In 1909 there was a large exhibition with him at Liljevalchs konsthall but the real breakthrough for him was from his exhibitions in Copenhagen 1917 and at Liljevalchs in 1918
