The construction of the Eames DCW Chair was a question how to make a single piece shell chair that fitted the natural contours of the body and would be suitable for mass production. A collaboration with Eero Saarinen, Charles won the Museum of Modern Art Organic Furniture competition in 1941. In 1945, the Time Magazine referred to the piece as the chair of the century.
