Katherine Bernhardt, born in 1975 and based in New York, made her breakthrough on the international art scene in the mid 2000s with a series of strong and bittersweet portraits of celebrities and models. These brutal portraits of Kate Moss encapsulate the period’s obsessive and media-induced idea of the beautiful but derailing supermodel caught in the midst of a drug scandal.
Katherine Bernhardt is represented by established galleries in Europe and the US, such as Xavier Hufkens in Brussels and Venus Over Manhattan in New York and Los Angeles. Bernhardt has exhibited extensively worldwide. Bernhardt’s work has been featured in The New Yorker, W Magazine, Vogue, Modern Painters, LA Times, Artforum and many others.
