The French post-impressionist Pierre Bonnard was a big inspiration for Ragnar Sandberg from the mid 1930s and onwards. He refined his colourite and his typical pink colours started to appear in the paintings. At the end of the 1930s Sandberg added darker colours, contrasting with the bright pink, red, yellow and blue. The motifs, mostly from Gothenburg, are filled with people bathing, cycling or, like here, walking down the streets.
