Muut tiedot

Chandra Ahlsell (f. 1973), Anna Holmquist (f. 1978)
MFA, Stockholm College of Arts, Crafts and Design.
The design duo Folkform consists of Chandra Ahlsell and Anna Holmquist. They founded Folkform in 2005 after studies at Stockholm College of Arts, Crafts and Design. Since the start the duo has been awarded with several design awards and are represented in the collections of Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Nasjonalmuseum in Oslo. They have from early on been focusing on preserving the local Swedish industry heritage. Folkform works in a close relation to the design process and the choice of material. Their work often explores the heirarchies of materials and with a critical perspective questioning preconcieved ideals. They create unique and limited objects with a craft based process. They use industrial materials like artificial marble, synthetic leather and masonite to create objects of greater value. The brutalistic ”Suburban skyline” lamps were inspired by the architectonic lines of the suburbs of Stockholm. This iconic lamp has received several awards and was given as a birthday present for Her Majesty the Queen of Sweden on her 70th birthday and the lamps is on display at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Folkform is working with the interior design of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm to be reopened in 2018.

This example is the first unique lamp handmade by Studio Folkform, exhibited i Milan 2017 and at the Residence price ceremony at ArkDes 2017. Since 2018 this model is produced by Örsjö belysning.
