"Samarkand Stitches #III"
Embroidered signature and dated 1988. Fabric assemblage with screenprinting 153 x 116 cm. Published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles.
Gemini Publication Sequence Number 1403.
Ikat silk fabrics imported from Samarkand were sewn together with domestic fabrics that had been screenprinted with photographic images taken during the artist's travels to the former Soviet Union. The random ink colors and the assortment of Ikat fabrics are the unique elements among the individually assembled textiles. The pieces are backed with assemblages of domestic fabrics. A hanging rod of powder-coated aluminum runs through a fabric band on the top back side allowing each piece to be displayed suspended from the ceiling or against the wall.
