The journey to Paris started in Stockholm on 1 March 1886 with the artist and friend Ernst Josephson. From Paris to Italy Carl Larsson continued with Klas Fåhraeus with the plan to visit Northern Africa. In Messina they nearly got into a Colera quarantine and therefore changed plans and went back to Paris.
