Joakim Strömholm och Patric Leo (red.), "Post Scriptum Christer Strömholm", 2012, avbildad helsida sid 99.
Our autumn sale includes two of Christer Strömholm’s most iconic photographs “Bleka Damen, Barcelona, 1955” and “Pojkarna, Montreuil, Paris, 1962” (Catalogue No. 204). There are also two rare guests in the sale from Santa Monica, LA, “Honest John, 'Muscle Beach' 1963” (Catalogue No. 205) and “Clips”, 1963 (Catalogue No. 206). Among the many tender portraits of small children that he met on his travels there is the photo of two small boys who meet the photographers gaze, curious but simultaneously earnest, while playing on a Parisian street. The photograph is typical of Strömholm’s numerous child portraits. These are images of real psychological depth that are all characterized by a sense of loneliness and isolation that was, perhaps, a feature of Strömholm’s own childhood. The boys, one of Strömholm’s favourite subjects, have become a photographic icon.
