Muut tiedot

This bottle belongs to a large group of snuff bottles characterized by their uniform, elongated, precisely cylindrical form. Their widely flared, compressed necks sometimes extend to the same diameter as the cylinder, as is almost the case on the present lot. This is one of the popular forms of the late 18th and first half of the 19th Century. Another bottle of very similar form, but decorated with with dragon and tiger designs, is illustrated by Robert Hall, Chinese Snuff Bottles II, No 9. Also compare with one sold at Christie's, Hong Kong, April 25, 2004, Lot 888.
The collection is a study collection, accumulated during a lifetime. The collector operated within the field of oriental works of art. Due to his knowledge and sense of quality he was of great help to many of the members on Kinaklubben (The China Club) with members such as the Swedish Crown Prince Gustav Adolf, Emil Hultmark and Carl Kempe. The collection is mainly acquired in Sweden and London.
