The Norwegian artist Jone Kvie graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo in 1997. He resides and works in Malmö, Sweden. Born in 1971 he represents a younger generation of contemporary artists working in the field of sculpture and installation, reflecting classical and modernist practices to address contemporary notions of sculpture.
The visual and sculptural motifs in the works of Jone Kvie often reflect phenomena and forms in nature. His work is inspired by, and contains references to, a broad range of diverse subjects including nature and the natural sciences, film, media and entertainment culture, everyday life and art history. The sculptures become a collage of the various sources, but the obvious direct representations of natural phenomena can be of both physical and psychological character, referring the physical nature as well as a mental space.
Kvie has exhibited extensively in Scandinavian galleries and institutions, including AROS Kunstmuseum (Århus), Göteborg Konstmuseum, Malmö Konstmuseum and The National Museum of Contemporary Art (Oslo). He is represented in public and private collections, most notably Corcoran Art Gallery (Washington DC), AROS Kunstmuseum (Århus), The National Museum of Contemporary Art (Oslo), The National Public Arts Council (Stockholm) and the Artmuseums of Malmö and Bergen. He has a permanent installation at Göteborg Konstmuseum.
