Today, Karin Mamma Andersson is an established artist both in Sweden and Internationally. Her graceful paintings with a secretive atmosphere, often painted with saturated Nordic colours, have been exhibited in prestigious institutions of Contemporary art. Among them are The Venice Biennale, The Modern Museum in Stockholm and David Swirner in New York. But during 1997, when this painting was executed, she was a young and relatively unknown artist. She found her motifs in her own environment, the home and her two children. Also, memories from her childhood in the north of Sweden finds her way in to the pictures. Much of the effort was put in the surface of the painting. She blended different techniques and materials and put several layers of colour to get an often rugged surface. This practice, together with the ordinary picture subject brings a feeling of uncertainty and mysteriousness.
