From 1797 to 1805 Mathias Gabriel II Lory worked together with his father, Gabriel I Ludwig Lory with a series of town views of St. Petersburg and Moscow. The work was commissioned by the Swiss businessman J Walser. Today the engravings are extremely rare, since the major part was destroyed in the 1812 fire of Moscow. Both father and son signed only with their family name Lory, therefore it is impossible to separate the two.
