It is a great lot of fun to sell this years most expensive piece of art, says Andreas Rydén, Head specialist art.
The wonderful relief by Sérgio de Camargo stood for the evening’s major surprise. After intense bidding, the lot reached the astonishing final price of 1 893 000 SEK, a full three times the estimate price. There was great interest, with bidders from all around the world.
The Swedish department included several important works from some of our most important modernists such as Leander Engström, Nils von Dardel, Erik Olson, Sigrid Hjertén and Gösta Adrian-Nilsson, which all ended at high final prices.
It is very exciting to see that the Swedish modernists sells so well to an international audience, says Björn Extergren, Head of Consignment & Sales.
The interest was great for the late Peter Dahl’s art, whereas several key paintings were hammered high above estimate, e.g. the painting “Gröna Rummet” (Green Room) ended at no less than 1 265 000 SEK.
