Modern Art & Design – Exceptional Art and Outstanding Design

Sigrid Hjertén and Isaac Grünewald, such as 'Den blå skutan', 'Den vita hatten', and 'Det röda taket – Glasbruksgatan, Stockholm' are some of the Art departments highlights. It also includes Gösta Adrian-Nilsson's (GAN) painting 'Höjdhoppare', which is now being sold at an auction for the first time. The international department also presents artists like Francis Newton Souza, Lucio Fontana, and Lotte Laserstein, whose work 'Polly Tieck' from the 1920s stands out as it's one of few pieces that she was able to bring with her from Germany to Sweden. The print department includes prints by Pablo Picasso, including 'L’Homme a la Guitare', as well as works by Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse and Paul Gauguin.

The design department presents highly sought-after furniture and lighting from top Scandinavian and international designers of the 20th century. Axel Einar Hjorth, Hans J. Wegner, Otto Schulz, Carl-Axel Acking, and Harald Notini. The department also includes a collection of design objects from the family of Gunnar Asplund and two special sections: 'Orrefors Lighting', featuring lamps from the Orrefors Glassworks, and '100 Years with Svenskt Tenn', showcasing iconic pieces by Josef Frank, Uno Åhrén, and Estrid Ericson.

Wilhelm Kåge, Berndt Friberg, Stig Lindberg, and Hans Hedberg are prominent and sought-after designers represented in the ceramics department. The glass department offers exquisite pieces from Orrefors and Venini. The carpets and textiles department presents a unique piece in Ruth Fischer’s tapestry 'The Legend of the Christmas Roses', created for the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition. One of the department's main highlight is Barbro Nilsson’s round carpet 'Gula rabatten' from 1944, along with several pieces by Märta Måås-Fjetterström, Marianne Richter, and Ingrid Dessau.

In the silver department, items range from early works by Georg Jensen and a Japanese-inspired dish from Tiffany & Co. to Wiwen Nilsson’s timeless candlesticks, vases, and boxes, as well as modern pieces by silversmith Rolf Lindståhl, known for his distinctive, minimalist style. The jewellery department offers a magnificent collection by Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe, along with early pieces with provenance from Gunilla Palmstierna-Weiss. Timeless jewellery by the ever-popular Wiwen Nilsson are also included.
